About

Oddbjörg Ragnarsdóttir

I was born on October 3, 1959 in Reykjavík and grew up at Laugavegur 74. I am a trained preschool teacher and hold a BA degree in Danish.

I attended Austurbæjarskóli and then Kvennaskólinn, graduating in 1976. After completing my basic education, I worked one winter in Iceland before moving to Denmark, where I lived and worked as a chambermaid at Hotel d'Angleterre and in a food factory.

During my years in Denmark, I began writing. In 1983 I returned to Iceland, and a year later I began studying at Fósturskóli Íslands, graduating in 1987. I had two sons, born in 1986 and 1992.

In 2002, my short story "Hættur" was published in the anthology "Hver með sínu nefi" by Þyrnirós. I continued my education and completed a B.ed degree in preschool education in 2009 and a BA in Danish in 2012, both from the University of Iceland.

At university, the need to write was rekindled. I took creative writing courses with Anna Heiða Pálsdóttir and a crime fiction course with Stefán Máni. These courses gave me the inspiration to continue writing.
